I can't believe we haven't updated since March, we're really sorry about that.
So the last post said about a new website and frankly it never happened, it was supposed to be done ages ago but communication between ourselves and the web-designer came to a grinding halt.

So I think we'll be going back to this for updates for the time being.
Don and I have been really busy with life recently, Don has started College in the States, majoring in whatever the fuck people do to become directors. Whilst I have gone to University here in the UK to do Computer Animation.

Space Hulk 2 is no further along in development and Kommandos is still plodding along. I'm very dissapointed that it's still not done, but it will be...one day!
I might start calling it Kommandos: Forever.

Part of the reason for this is my abilities as an artist have dramatically improved since the last time I've posted, meaning new scenes look miles ahead of old scene, meaning I have to re-do old scenes or apply a fresh lick of paint. Even the screenshot up to top is somewhat out of date.

The other reason is a new series Don and I are working together on, which is going at a very rapid pace and shouldn't be too much longer! (lol, ignore that statement we all know it's not true)

Also, Don came over to the UK in the summer and we had a wicked time, we went to Sonisphere Festival and got a chance to headbang to the big 4!! Which was fucking sweet and did some travel around Europe, which really just resulted in me binging on Rockstar

And ended with a trip to Warhammer World in Nottingham!! :D

We did however complete a commission for the new tabletop game SDE. Which was pretty fun and hectic.

Hey everyone, sorry for the inactivity, we're currently setting up a new website (yes a proper one!) for all of our blogging and such!
So whilst we get that all set up and running, there won't be too many posts on this blog, once it's done (another week or 2) we'll post here to re-direct you, it's looking pretty good I must say though ;)

RSK Update 2: Screenplay

So, yesterday I finished the screenplay for Red Skull Kommandos.
I have to say I'm really pleased with how it's turned out, I put a lot of creative effort into writing the script and it's full of what I hope will be good fights, funny jokes and the first ever Flash animation dedicated to Orks.

After finishing the script last night I sent it over to Don, who loved it. So we're going to fine-tune the screenplay and make some edits to get it as sharp as it can be.
In the mean time I can begin story-boarding!

Things are actually moving a lot faster than I anticipated, which is great, I've got some voice actors on-board (all of which are native English, (I might do one of the Orks myself) for authentic Orky accents) and potentially a composer to make a good track for the animation.

Red Skull Kommandos

So, I've restarted work on Kommando and by that, I mean I've thrown out all the old stuff and am starting again with a different premise.
This time it's about the Red Skull Kommandos famous on Armageddon for their sneakiness and smearing the hot blood of their scalped foes on their own head :).

I'm taking a new approach to animation than I havn't in previous years. I'm starting to take this whole thing a lot more seriously as projects before would be incomplete, unsatisfactory or just not good enough and everytime I did it, I looked at the months of work and just felt bad about it.
And so this time I'm doing things properally, I'm writing a screenplay that will detail everything in a good cohesive manner.
Shortly after finishing the screenplay I'll move onto story-boarding, detailing things down in a rough but consisive way, to get an idea of how I want the scenes to look.

Following this I will gather voice-actors and give them the lines to record and find a composer to make a decent war-like soundtrack.
I will than move onto an animatic, which is kind of rough drawings moving in a very basic motion just to show what is happening, so I can see how it all will look composed together, I will add the recorded dialouge to it as well.

I expect all of that to take me 2 months give or take and only after all that is done will I even attempt to animate anything! Because (and we've all been there) I'm sick and tired of half completed projects badly thought out animations. Especially when I've got Space Hulk to compare myself to eh ;p

I wasn't going to do this, but I felt the urge to let some artistic creativity flow after several days of writing.
And so, I present to you...Red Skull Kommandos title!

Man it's been a while, sorry for such a long posting hiatus, Don and myself have been very busy...what with Halo: Reach out and all.

Well to be honest neither of us has been working a Warhammer 40k Animation for a good while, and so we havn't felt it right to post! However I think I should break this huge gap just so you guys know we're not dead and all that jazz. Plus...we <3 you... YAYAH.

In any case, whilst I'm posting I wanna show you something! (or it'd be a bit of a shitty post) remember me going on about getting to America to meet Don? WELL THAT SHIT HAPPENED, it was magical.

gideon face remaster and progress report

right; first and most importantly, I've redrawn Gideons face so he looks less idiotic and a tad more metal. you'll see how that comes into play in upcoming SH2.

turns out the model and character design by GW doesn't include a bionic eye (cant imagine what possessed me to initially give him one) and does include a wicked v-brow as I'm now calling it.

no, Gideon is not Asian, tho I don't really see why it would matter you racist fucks (He's just eternally pissed off.)

I'M A FREE-MAN BABY!!!!

So I somehow convinced my tutor to let me do Kommando as my project for college, MUAHAHAH IDIOTS!!! So expect some updates by next friday! (even if we do always forget to update).

So I recently started a Night Lords army, I always wanted to but never took the plunge, untill I read Soul Hunter by a one Mr.Aaron Dembski-Bowden, seriously it's very very very good! It beats out all other Black Library stuff (in my opinion including Dan Abnett or Graham Mcneil). I wanna do some awesome animation about the legions, like a fluff lecture via animation, but alas...I can't be bothered. Kommando needs finishing!

And Space Hulk 2, my mic is busted, so err, untill I get that, I can't do voices for SH2....so if you raise a mob of 20 people pitch forks and bolters at the ready, aim it at me.

Hey people, 18 followers! Hell that may not seem like much, but it sure is a step up from the 12 we had 2 weeks ago, someone must of spread the word! Why thank you, silent rogue.

So...you've been neglected and you want your money back, well you didn't give me any money so that's a moot point. As to the reasons you have been neglected...well, there arn't really any good ones.
From my side of the equation I've just been busy sorting out college shit but should be doing Kommando in no time.

On Don's side of the equation however....Okay, well I think Don is dead. I haven't heard from the fella' for about a month now, maybe less, who knows.
I've spoken to his brother who assures me he is alive but just up to his neck in work, I have my doubts. If Don is dead, you heard it here first!!

Hey everyone, just a quick update so you know we're still alive.

I built a new PC recently, and well...it's fucked, I get a strange black screen after boot up on windows 7, but before the 'windows is starting' sequence, I've tried a fresh reinstall, but to no avail.

Something is on that computer that I desperatly wish to show you, however it'll have to wait.

So next week, there will be some major announcements, come back than.

Temple Of Skulls and Tutorial guide

Here I show my project log of painting the temple of skulls terrain kit. It shows how I adapted GW's Tutorial to match the table I have at home, to lend Ideas to others trying to get it to match

1)ASSEMBLY
RIGHT, so before we even GET to the painting of the model, there's the assembly. this took all of 10 minutes because its an 8 piece kit, but after the basic construction of the model I tried to reduce the mold line on the rear three skulls that's created when you glue the faces to the domes. I used filler, and though this worked a little I'd recommend for you guys to go all out on this step and use a lot, and sand... and stuff, because you can still see my mold lines

2)UNDERCOAT
before I sprayed the whole model Chaos black, I went to use my citadel "rough coat" spray. Not only did I find this to be unnecessary (unless your not very good at dry brushing) but incredibly annoying. every burst I had to fight for, clearing and removing the nozzle, twisting it, spraying upside down... maybe I just got a bad bottle but if you're good at uniformly dry brushing, you dont have to worry about this. I think i just got some spray-oil on maybe a 10th of the model before scrapping the whole Idea.

3)BASECOAT
now, in the tutorial found here, games says to overcoat the whole model Charadon Granite. However, I found as that when wet this color looks very brown, so I assumed this was Games trying to play off using their too complicated to explain mixtures (since in the picture it looks Grey)
HOWEVER, charadon granite drys fairly Grey, though still slightly brown

4) EARLY HIGHLIGHTS
next you're supposed to drybrush the stones with a 1:1 mix of tausept ocher and black, with a dot of skull white.
-I used a little more than a dot of white because I wanted the mix to be a bit more Grey then brown
-Instead of just the stones, I drybrushed the whole model very lightly, because I decided to skip the graveyard earth (again, trying to make the model more blackish-Grey to match my table

5)MORE BUILD UP
Earth: I skipped the Drybrushing straight Tausept Ocher (to match my table, again)
Stones:Drybrushed 1:1 Fortress Gray and Rotting flesh
(afterward)the Floor: Drybrushed Codex Gray

6)THE CHAOS STAR
Just like the tutorial. The arrows are Tausept ocher, the pupil is Mechrite red, and the eye is skull white

You can see here how I painted where the star was broken away with chipped paint. you can decide to do it this way or make the star parts appear to be indeed made out of yellow stone

Finally, Games says to highlight the skulls by drybrushing with skull white, sparingly. I wasnt satisfied with the way my pillars looked, so I applied a bit of white on them, like at the tops where the stone would be fresh and light after being broken.

LASTLY,
GW says to Drybrush the whole model Bleached bone, to unite it

FINISHING TOUCHES
our household plays exclusively 40k, and the terrain piece (particularly the star) was looking a little clean. So I used chaos black and stippled/weathered choice areas

I also picked out the skulls (something GW didn't mention) by painting them solid skull white, then by inking them heavily with badab black

for a final touch of consistancy to the table, I VERY, VERY sparingly stippled and blended tin bitz here and there. our table has little areas here and there of tinbitz, as if the black earth had become metalic from burning/bombing.

So, what has got me salivating you might ask?

Well, you know how a lot of games like Mega man have like really, really detailed cover art, yet the games graphics are nothing like the cover art at all? I'm talking like THIS

Well, I thought, if Mega Man can have some cover art that doesn't represent it's real graphics, than why can't Kommando? I mean after all it would look nice and swish!
Plus, who doesn't want awesome art for their product?

Will all these seductive thoughts blazing through my skull, I pulled a few strings (asked really, really, really nicely) if a fantastic artist could create this kinda thing while I work on the animation.
And this is where Saint-Max comes in, seriously check out his artwork, I had several Nerdgasm's just looking at that depiction of a Warrior-Priest!

He sent me over a few 'Sketches' (Sketches that put everything I've ever done to shame) to oogle at, and man do they look fantastic.

Here, see for yourself, err...yeah...'sketches'.

Now, obviously we know the Orks are a bit out of proportion, and not hunched over like Orks should be, but remember these are just concepts and all that good stuff comes later.

But seriously...<---LOOK AT IT!

As can be imagined I am very happy about this and the final outcome will be absoulutly epic!

P.S Don isn't dead, he's just busy. (Busy making an Imperial Guardsmen uniform for Baltimore Games-Day) I'd go to, but My Queen and Country need me here in England!!!...Okay it's actually because I'm poor...

Oops... Okay we forgot to update again, we're getting good at this!

So on with the update!!

Progression this week on Kommando has been huge, I'm actually starting to get something reasonable together.
Something worth viewing!

We also have a very intesting development going on, BUT IT'S A SECRET! Really, I want to tell you, but due to the fact that it's so far off, and we are not sure what is happening with it, it's not worth flapping my lips about it.
What I can tell you though, is that we never expected it would be made, but following some nostalgia induced conversations, we decided....it HAD to be made.

You'll just have to wait and see! =]
And before anyone asks...no, no screen shots this week, sorry, though a screenshot or two next week I promise!

And you know, soon I may call upon you twelve followers for some assistance, what that assistance may be, will remain a mystery, but hopefully it'll be enjoyable for everyone!

Tom - News & Tidbits

So I guess now is a good time to update as any!..

So some interesting things have been going on recently. Space Hulk (you remember that beast of an animation right?) landed us an oppertunity. Which may I say is very fucking cool.

I can't talk about stuff yet, there is still a lot going on in the works. But, we were propositioned with an offer the other day. Essentially, we make Warhammer Flash content for a huge up and coming website (No really,this thing is gonna be massive) and in return all sorts of miracles and sugary wonders will unfold, for instance, in the not so dissant future, we could be looking at having a Flash Gitz domain! And that is just the start of lovely things that can come out of this deal.

So by now I'm sure you've figured out, there are not gonna be any screenshots this post ): Well, what kind of people would we be if we spoiled you with tasty things to look at every week? (don't answer that)

In other news, Kommando is progressing well, real life is constantly rearing it's ugly head, but not to worry, just gotta crack on. Though real life isn't the only time consumer right now, I mean...have you seen those Blood Angel models!? Yes I have been dribbling over those, giving me all kinds of giddy ideas for Blood Angels animations, BUT NO! Don has that covered with Space Hulk, and he does make a tastey Blood Angel delight..

Although I have to say I am less than impressed with some of the Blood Angel models, I mean the Sanguinary Guard? To me just look god damned stupid, what is up with their armour? Also, the Death Company...Now these are very nice models, but where are the crazy blood crazed psycho paths we all know and love? (Except the Sergeant, he looks mental) But than comes Lemartes and shits all over my opinion with pure awesome-ness.

Well, that about raps it up for this week. On with the animations! (and scrounging around for cash, so I can be shipped to America in a small box and meet Don in person, flight from England to America? To much.)

I'm sure you've all probably forgotten about me considering it's been some time since my last post. (SHAME ON YOU FOR FORGETTING ME!) I've just been busy with real life, sadly my nephew recently passed away, hence my lack of progress, however! No more! For I opened the file of Kommando this very night.

And as you can see above, from the very fitting and tactical Camo that is present on that Ork, that they are indeed Blood Axes! Hopefully you guys are excited for this project, I know I am!

SH2 progress: Gideon

Ive completed the 'first draft' of the Gideon model for episode 2. though it will be subject to some changes before completion of the final product, here he is as it stands now:

Gideon is going to be the badass of the lot; perhaps the only character truly worth his salt as a warrior (though leon and Zael know how to shoot genestealers pretty well)

My concept of Gideon is that perhaps he is too much of a badass, and gets himself in dangerous situations as a result of it. Anyway, to suit the character I've decided to make him bigger and bulkier than anyone else. the head needed to be small compared to the body to add to the look, so as not to appear small headed next to Lorenzo, Gideon was made relatively bigger than Lorenzo so they're head sizes are about the same:

I Hope to get it today or tomorrow; Pennsylvania (newgrounds HQ) was hit just as hard as Maryland in terms of snow (3 feet!) so, even if they have read my message, I can see why they couldn't do anything about it until they could actually step foot into the office.

Hello all (yes you, you one precious follower =] )

I felt like it was to time to get off my ass and post on this blog, so let me introduce you to my WIP animation, Kommando!

As you can tell, it's about Ork Kommandos, and is slated for a realease in...the future...!? The general premise is of an Ork called Rutsnik, who is trying to be 'da bestist Kommando der is!' always living in Snikrot's shadow, we follow his (often comedic) story from a runt to a skilled 'Ashashun'

SpaceHulk Eps1 Delays

I hoped to have it Done by yesterday at least, but my brother had band practice which usually disables ones ability to think. Alas, instead of finishing up the film, I retired to my room to watch the end of a dumb movie on comedy central

ANYWAY, expect to see it finished in the next couple days oh 0 followers :D

ANYWAY (again,) In the meanwhile ive decided to post a few interesting things

A, toms brother-in-law will be redoing all voices for Lorenzo, (at least for this episode,) so tom, in fact, will not have completed the impressive feat of having played like, 6 or 7, and all, the characters in a cartoon.

ALSO, I've added a neat sort of lightning effect to Lorenzo's sword, so here's a break down of the frames so you can see and replicate the technique of 'lightning,' as well as the finished product.

SpaceHulk: Episode 1 Announcement

Originally I was going to make a trailer, but Ill just post some pics since this will be coming out in the next day or 2.

Anyway, Ive done my best to follow the basic fluff of the 40k universe, and all cartoon characters are fairly good representations of what the actual models look like. the first episode is based on the game's 1st mission, 'Suicide Mission.' all following episodes will be based on the other missions in the rule book, in order, so there will be about 12 episodes in all.

Ill post a link to Newgrounds and embed a video once its done, but until then chew on these :D

I do not claim right to the names of any characters in my film(s) as well as their relative designs (color schemes,) though their personalities, artwork in the animations, and design of all voices and behavior is the work of me and tom.

Hello, my name is Don.

It seemed appropriate to begin the blog, with something about well, the blog, and the idea of it. I don't know if anyone will read this, but there would be a sort of void; something missing about this site, if it never really properly began.

SO.. I wont speak for Tom, but i see the purpose of this site/blog as an interesting resource and time burner for warhammer and flash enthusiasts. we'll be mainly posting regular updates on our progress on various warhammer related animation projects, as well as brief tutorials, tips, and links to neat helpful things we find around the web.

I've happened upon a few rare, extremely helpful tutorials, tips and tricks, scattered and burried in the internet over the years of researching flash. I hope our blog can become such a treasure, either through our own, unique contributions to the animation world, or our sharing of the discoveries of flash treasures abroad :)
